This Friday, the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, arrived in Venezuela to hold a meeting with his counterpart in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, in the city of Caracas.
The president was received by the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil. The official day has as its main stage the Yellow House, headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, where both leaders head the so-called “III Meeting of the Neighborhood and Integration Commission”.
This institutional meeting seeks to consolidate the diplomatic and technical road map that governs ties between neighboring nations, prioritizing the well-being of border communities and political stability in the region.
The event acquires strategic relevance as it represents the sixth visit of the Colombian Head of State since August 2022 and the first since April 2024. This return to the Venezuelan capital marks a turning point in bilateral relations, reaffirming the will of both governments to maintain direct and permanent communication channels. The meeting at the historic diplomatic headquarters makes it possible to adjust cooperation mechanisms at a key moment for the institutional balance of the area.
During the development of this high-level commission, ministerial teams evaluate the progress of agreements in the area of shared security and commercial exchange. The focus of the talks focuses on streamlining the flow of goods and services, as well as strengthening vigilance in legal steps to combat irregular activities.
Heads of State personally oversee the agreements that will allow greater economic integration, seeking to ensure that the reactivation of productive sectors is sustainable and directly benefits the inhabitants of neighboring departments and states.
The meeting will conclude with the signing of protocols that update commitments in fundamental areas such as energy and cross-border transport. With this gesture of rapprochement, the leaders confirm their willingness to work under principles of mutual respect and sovereignty, leaving the foundations laid for a new phase of political collaboration.
