The United Nations (UN), in its current form, is unable to fulfill its essential crisis-resolution functions, said the president of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in an opinion article published for the American magazine Newsweek, quoted by TASS.
“The UN, created after the Second World War to maintain peace and security, is unfortunately no longer able to fulfill its essential role in the face of modern crises and conflicts,” says the Turkish president.
He also added that the Security Council, the main organ of the UN, created on the principles of justice and equality, has been limited by the will and interests of only five countries when it comes to making decisions on regional and global crises.
“This unjust structure, one of the main sources of stagnation of our time, needs urgent reform so that the UN can truly become a functional center of effective multilateralism, in accordance with its founding principles, and so that we can develop equitable solutions to global problems,” he argued.
The Turkish president added “places dialogue and mediation diplomacy at the center of his foreign policy, despite the vacuum created by the diminished effectiveness of the UN and the multiple geopolitical challenges.”
