President Nicolás Maduro, during the 165 years of the Great Victory of the Battle of Santa Inés, which culminated in the defeat of the oligarchies and the colonial empire of Spain, asserted that Ezequiel Zamora confronted the oligarchy just as now the Bolivarian Revolution does against fascism and the pro-imperialist oligarchy.

“If the army of Simón Bolívar and Antonio José de Sucre was anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist, Ezequiel Zamora commanded the first popular anti-oligarchic army in the history of our country,” said the Head of State.

He highlighted that Zamora was the first to bring the ideas of 19th century utopian socialism to our homeland.

“He rose up against the oligarchy that betrayed Bolivar, and his slogans were:...” Free men and lands, popular choice and horror of the oligarchy!” he stressed.

He added that 165 years later in Venezuela there are free men and women, elections and grassroots popular power and horror of oligarchy and fascism wherever it is.
