The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, announced that after deciding to appoint the Presidential Commission created to rebuild the military evolution of Venezuela, work will be carried out on a collection of historical documents, to present a story of five centuries, from the struggles of the Grand Chief Guaicaipura, to the refounding of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) by Commander Hugo Chávez.
He indicated that Major General Frank Zurita will be in charge of this work, which he will coordinate with a group of Venezuelan historians, both civil and military. “And very soon we will be able to complete the volumes of the Military History of Venezuela in 500 years, from the resistance of Guaicaipura, to the refounding of the FANB, and that will have a direct impact,” he reported from the headquarters of the Bolivarian Military Academy in Caracas.
In the conversation with the commanders of superior and tactical units of the military institution, held this Friday, the national president revealed that in the Casona Cultural Ezequiel Nazoa, former presidential house, he had access to documents of great value, which were collected under the direction of the historian from Tachirense, Ramón J. Velázquez, published in the 1960s.
“I discovered in La Casona 10 volumes of the Military History of Venezuela from 1810 to 1868 and sent them to be reproduced, also because they are very old and full of dust and mites, and I began to study them,” he said, highlighting a valuable discovery in these forgotten books. He said that in the first volume, he found one of the decrees signed by El Libertador Bolívar in the capital of Peru, Lima, after the victory of Junín. It is about the creation of Peruvian popular militias, to defend the triumph over the Spanish empire.
“Bolívar, very good, excellent, almost one of the first steps he takes to consolidate and establish a government, to territorially consolidate the victory of Junín, already thinking and preparing for the next battle,” he reflected.
He considered that ideas and decrees such as these should be reviewed and known by the members of the FANB, in their academies and training centers, as well as by all Venezuelans.
