A group of national opposition deputies filed a criminal complaint in Argentina against federal prosecutor Eduardo Taiano, in charge of investigating the Libra case, for poor performance and violation of public official duties.
The accusation is based on “unjustified delays in the production of evidence” and on the “retention and concealment” of evidence from the complainant.
The criminal action was brought by legislators Monica Frade and Maximiliano Ferraro, of the Civic Coalition; Sabrina Selva, Juan Marino, Itai Hagman, Julia Strada and Rodolfo Tailhade, of Union for the Fatherland; and Esteban Paulón, of United Provinces.
These parliamentarians, who last year led the commission of inquiry into the Libra case, argued in writing that the prosecutor's irregularities affect the progress of the judicial process related to the massive fraud of citizen assets surrounding a cryptocurrency promoted by President Javier Milei.
In the document, the signatories detail a sequence of events that, according to their proposal, evidence unjustified delays. The judicial scandal in the Libra case emerged on February 14, 2025, with a tweet promoting a cryptocurrency by the Argentine president whose value plummeted a few hours later.
