PSUV and Lao People's Revolutionary Party reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation

Through his Telegram channel, the vice-president of International Affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Rander Peña, reported that the permanent secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Bounthong Chitmany, who also serves as vice-president of the Asian nation, held a meeting with the objective of reaffirming the commitments to cooperation between parties.

In this regard, Peña explained that during the meeting the following points were discussed:

  • Congratulations to the Venezuelan head of state for his re-election as president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on July 28, which were issued by the president of the Democratic People's Republic of Laos, Thonlough Sisoulith.
  • Mutual commitment to the implementation of agreements contained in the Memorandum of Understanding between the parties, which will provide a new impetus to relations and cooperation in the political, ideological, economic and commercial areas.
  • Establishment of a cooperation map on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which will be completed in the year 2025.
  • Implementation of theoretical seminars on the thinking of Commander Hugo Chávez in Laos and on the thinking of the Laotian leader, Kaysone Phomvihane, in Venezuela.

Venezuela and Laos are allied nations through South-South cooperation through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which Laos has been a member since 1997. The Association was created in 1967 by the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, to accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural cooperation in the region.
