With an emotional message posted on his social networks, fencer Rubén Limardo said goodbye to Venezuela's first gold medalist in the Olympic Games, Francisco “Morochito” Rodríguez, who physically left this Wednesday, April 24, at 78 years of age.

“Your image will be engraved forever waiting for me at the door of the plane after winning the London 2012 gold,” said Limardo.

He also said that to say that Morochito was his inspiration is not enough, “in the face of the legacy you built with your fists and strength”.

“Thank you for so much Morochito, rest in peace eternal champion,” said the fencer.

Rodríguez and Limardo share a select list of four Venezuelan nationals who have won a gold medal at the Olympic Games, together with Yulimar Rojas and Arlindo Gouveia.
