The Caracas Metro is carrying out a plan to increase the number of operating trains to 70 during 2024 to provide services on all subway lines, said Transportation Minister Ramón Velásquez Araguayan.
During an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), he highlighted that these trains that will start operating were inoperative and, thanks to the efforts of the working class, they were recovered.
“We currently have 32 trains in operation, but a precise and committed work schedule was made for this year to reach 70 trains on all lines, which will shorten waiting times,” he said.
In addition, he stressed that, as part of the Metro Moves With You Plan, rehabilitation work will begin in the workshops, rest areas for workers and the railway system.
“These are jobs that we will do with our own technology and inventiveness. Many of the spare parts that our meters will have are designed and produced by national talent,” he stressed while emphasizing that these spare parts will be certified.
He also highlighted that within the framework of this plan, 80 metrobuses were also rehabilitated. He also indicated that by the month of May they expect to incorporate 40 buses into the system and in July 100, to end the year with an operational fleet of more than 300 vehicles.
In the same way, he indicated that 20 routes of this surface transport system were reactivated. “These routes include 357 stops which, in the coming days, we will begin to intervene to put them in optimal conditions,” he said.
