REDI Guyana achieved important progress against trafficking and illegal mining

During the balance of operations of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), led by General in Chief Vladimir Padrino López and Popular Minister for Defense, within the framework of Operation Bolivarian Shield.
Major General Wilfredo Medrano Machado, commander of the Guiana Strategic Defense Region (REDI), reported that 51 Rapid Reaction Units (URRA) were deployed from Bolívar state for a total of 50,000 fighters defending the nation.
He also reported that he withheld 100 boxes with four units each of sausages, for a total of 1,400 kg; 250 packages of rice, for 7,500 kg; the total amount of merchandise seized is 8,900 kg containing products of Brazilian nationality, which were transported illegally.
Regarding illegal mining, he reported that a camp was destroyed in the vicinity of the Guri reservoir in the Grillero sector, in the Bolivarian municipality of Angostura, in the Bolivarian State of Bolívar. Five Venezuelans and a Brazilian citizen were arrested at the scene.
During this seizure, firearms, motor pumps, water turbines, solar panels, gasoline-type fuel and two motorcycles were confiscated.
In the Macagua reservoir, equipment and materials that were buried and were used for illegal mining were located and destroyed.
4,000 liters of diesel-type fuel, three air compressors and 2,000 meters of high-pressure hose, said the commander of Redi Guayana. “National territory can never be ceded or in any way alienated by foreign States,” he said.
M/G Medrano Machado, assured that the national space is a zone of peace. “It is the duty to maintain the environment for the benefit of the world, national parks and natural monuments will be preserved and protected as national heritage,” he said.
