The Minister of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, Ricardo Molina, stressed that the Great Mother Earth Mission, promoted by President Nicolás Maduro, focuses on protecting the territory and addressing structural issues in this area.

“This mission is not a gardening mission, it is a mission not only to make us aware, but to improve conditions (...) this mission focuses on the protection of the territory in areas where it is necessary to sow (...) the President has designed this great mission considering the people first, as an essential protagonist, together with the government at all its scales,” he said during his participation in the program Sin Trick Ni Maña, in which he pointed out that it has 7 fundamental vertices.

In this regard, he indicated that the first vertex has to do with Popular Power; and in relation to this, he pointed out that before December 19, the 5,638 ecosocialist councils must be formed in each commune to be responsible for environmental policies in the territory.

He stressed that the second vertex is the territory for life, which aims to repopulate areas that need, mainly in the headwaters of rivers, to recover degraded areas.

He recalled that more than 60% of the Venezuelan territory are protected areas due to natural spaces and hence the importance of a Great Mission such as this one that seeks to preserve our environment. At the same time, he pointed out that another of the vertices is that of planting for life; for which he pointed out that nearly 10 million trees have been planted and the goal is to reach 35 million by 2028.

“This involves the participation of a lot of people to be able to do it, it is a work that sows trees, but it also sows awareness,” he said and noted that another aspect addressed by the Great Mission has to do with climate for life, whose objective is that from each commune, together with relevant organizations such as the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMEH) or the climate change observatory, the risk map is built with scientific data of the territory.

He also pointed out that the other vertex he addresses is that of fauna for life. “We have to recognize in our communities what fauna there is, how we protect it, how we incorporate ourselves or how we incorporate them into everyday life, everything that has to do with the treatment of tons and tons of raw materials that today we say is garbage, how to organize ourselves to take advantage of it. 30% of garbage today is plastic that is recyclable, 20% is paper and cardboard, 10% is glass that is from the sole of organized communities that can be done efficiently and how can we have collection centers... “, he said.

He specified that we are also working together with the various ministries such as the Ministry of Electric Energy to promote this Great Mission. “This is not a matter of a ministry, this is a matter of a people with their government in a comprehensive way, they are producing solar panels to reach areas where it is much more expensive to arrive with power lines and learn to use solar energy in a much more efficient way,” he said.

“We still have a long way to go, but here we go, we have undoubtedly been affected by unilateral coercive measures, the criminal blockade has restricted economic capacity, but little by little progress has been made with the issue of solar energy and how to make the most of it in each of the territories,” he said.
