The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, described as an “event of historic significance” the delivery of the proposed electoral calendar by political, religious and business sectors.

In this regard, she explained that the action brought together the broadest sectors of the political, social, economic, cultural and religious life of workers, students, youth workers and political parties to set guidelines in all aspects related to the presidential election of 2024.

Rodríguez dismissed the statements of radical sectors of the right that asserted that the elections were going to be postponed, “in 22 years of the Bolivarian Revolution, the ties of calling for elections have never been breached.

He specified among the most outstanding agreements of those agreed, “the strict defense of the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, of our independence, of our right to self-determination, that there should be no external pressure for the development of the electoral event.”

In addition, he indicated that “we have all agreed on respect for the institutions derived from the Constitution, all institutions, the Public Powers, the opinions issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE), the judgments established in the Supreme Court of Justice and the courts of the Republic, the decisions issued by the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and respect for peace and the territorial integrity of our Republic are in agreement with all of us who signed the document,” while adding that it was agreed to recognize “whoever is nominated by the National Electoral Council, must be complied with by everyone.”

With regard to electoral guarantees, he said that there is “no country that has an electoral system that is as efficient, as robust, as effective, as fast, with as many audits and with as many control and surveillance mechanisms as the Venezuelan electoral system, but abundance is always useful and that is why we set out to evaluate the proposals for electoral guarantees and all of them are incorporated in this document.”

He also added that another important aspect is compliance with the rules dictated by the CNE regarding “principles of equal opportunities for candidates” on social networks, “that the National Electoral Council establishes mechanisms so that we can all have access to the media and the candidate can express their ideas under equal conditions.”
