The executive vice president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, denounced that the United States has established itself as the main epicenter of drug trafficking, questioning the double standards of the U.S. government in the supposed fight against drugs.
.
“The United States has become the center for drug trafficking” (...) The United States doesn't combat drug trafficking, it facilitates it. Its traditional financial system is deeply linked to laundering operations related to fentanyl trafficking, while its population dies from overdoses without receiving efficient care or rehabilitation policies,” said Rodríguez, during a press conference
Rodríguez cited a United Nations (UN) report that estimates that drug trafficking in North America represents 2.7% of all global criminal activity. “This data reveals a structure that is deeply committed to organized crime. Meanwhile, in Venezuela we are moving forward in a process of gradual recovery, with our own sacrifice and with national pride,” he added.
Rodríguez described the North American narrative on the fight against drug trafficking as “hypocritical”, pointing out that more than 110,000 citizens died from overdoses in 2024 alone.
“If they really cared about their people, they would have a lot of tasks to attend to at home: health policies, financial control, rehabilitation. But they prefer to look at other countries, intervene, attack and use drug trafficking as an excuse for regime change,” he emphasized.
Rodríguez urged the international community to closely monitor the role of the United States in the expansion of drug trafficking.
