The co-founder of the rock band Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, appeared this Monday, April 13, in front of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, in the United States (USA), to demand the release of the constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and the first lady Cilia Flores.

On this date, Venezuela commemorated the Day of National Dignity, on the 24th anniversary of the defeat of the coup against the Bolivarian Revolution and Commander Hugo Chávez, which was reversed by the mobilization of the people in the streets.

Waters, one of the most critical artists of the Western imperial order, joined the protest organized by the Venezuela Solidarity Network, Workers World Party, Brooklyn Against War and Bronx Antiwar, and spoke in front of the walls of the federal prison where the Donald Trump government is illegally holding the Venezuelan president after the military attack on January 3 against the Bolivarian nation.

The artist began his speech under the slogan “Free Maduro ! Free Maduro! Free the leaders!” , he said, pointing directly to the building in which President Maduro is locked with his wife. “That's a tragedy and a serious mistake. That's why we're here today, protesting against his imprisonment. Release Maduro now!” , he reiterated.

The expressions of solidarity with the Venezuelan presidential couple are permanent, grassroots organizations maintain a constant presence in front of the MDC, denouncing the action as an act of political persecution and demanding the release of both leaders through letters, rallies and mobilizations.
