Russia and Belarus sign a treaty on mutual security guarantees

This Friday, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and his counterpart from Belarus, Alexandr Lukashenko, signed the treaty on mutual security guarantees.

The official signing ceremony of the document took place on the sidelines of the meeting of the Supreme Council of the State of the Union in the Belarusian capital, Minsk.

Previously, the Russian president, who is visiting Minsk, was sure that such a treaty “will reliably protect the security of Russia and Belarus”, as well as create conditions for the next peaceful and stable development of the two States.

According to President Putin, the document “defines the alliance's mutual commitments to the defense, protection of sovereignty, independence, constitutional order” of both countries.

He added that he will also guarantee the inviolability of the territorial integrity of Russia and Belarus with the use of all available forces and means, stressing that these are “Russian tactical nuclear weapons”.

This Friday, the meeting of the Supreme Council of the State of the Union is held in the Belarusian capital in the framework of the 25th anniversary of the creation of the State of the Union between Moscow and Minsk.
