The Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN), Dmitri Polianski, at the special session of the Security Council (UNSC), stated that the entity has become a hostage to the decisions imposed by the United States (USA).

In the context of the recent Israeli attack on the Al-Tabein school in Gaza, which left more than 100 Palestinians dead, Polianski said that “all 14 members of the Security Council have been held hostage by the United States, which blocks any action in favor of an immediate ceasefire.”

The Russian representative regretted the Security Council's passivity in the face of the catastrophic situation in Gaza because this body has not yet been able to develop a coherent response to the escalation of the crisis in Western Asia.

“In fact, the UN Security Council looks more and more like a passive and powerless observer, who is only able to see a further deterioration of the situation and to ritually express its concern about it,” he added.
