The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, assured that Russia is willing to provide legal advice to the founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, who is being held in France.

“Of course, taking into account (Durov's) Russian nationality, we are ready to provide him with the necessary assistance. But the situation is complicated by the fact that he is also a national of France,” Peskov emphasized.

In this regard, he indicated that there must be serious evidence from the French government regarding the accusations against Durov.

“ Otherwise, this will be a direct attempt to restrict freedom of communication and directly intimidate the director of a large company. This will be a policy whose existence Mr. [French President, Emmanuel] Macron denied yesterday,” he emphasized.

According to what was published on the Sputnik website, the Russian diplomat expressed the hope that Durov will have all the necessary capabilities to organize his legal defense.

On August 24, the founder of Telegram was arrested when he was arrested at Le Bourget airport, near Paris, on alleged charges related to managing the social network, among others, which could lead him to prison for 20 years.
