The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, will deliver a speech from the rostrum of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) on September 28, spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced at a press conference this Wednesday.
“On September 10, the 79th session of the UN General Assembly opened. The Russian delegation is headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and his speech is scheduled for September 28 within the framework of the high-level week of the General Assembly,” he said.
The Russian diplomat stressed that “Sergey Lavrov will also participate in a series of events on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, including within the framework of the BRICS, the Group of Twenty and the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter. In addition, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry traditionally maintains a whole series of bilateral contacts, including a conversation with the Secretary General of the world organization, Guterres.”
The session of the General Assembly will take place in a context of growing global tensions. “This tendency is a direct consequence of the collective West's destructive line to maintain its fading dominance on the world stage.”
“Washington and its satellites do not disdain the most unscrupulous methods, including the colonial instruments practiced by old metropolises: illegal unilateral sanctions, restriction of access to new technologies and military interventions,” said the representative of the foreign ministry.
