The Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of São Tomé and Príncipe signed this Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding for strategic cooperation in various areas of interest, with which the African country officially joined the Agroalba project.

“We thank the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of São Tomé and Príncipe, Abel Da Silva Bom Jesús, for his words and visit to our country to consolidate this important agreement. Together we will work towards food sovereignty and sustainable development, which will allow us to strengthen our ties and build a prosperous future,” said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil.

The Agroalba project was created to award 10,000 hectares of Venezuelan productive land to companies from participating countries, to allow each participating nation to develop productive proposals in partnership with Venezuela, to take advantage of the geographical and climatic diversity of the South American country.

The initiative seeks to transform the agricultural, livestock and poultry sector, as well as promote productive investment and food sovereignty in Venezuela and allied nations of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America — Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) and Petrocaribe.
