This Tuesday, June 23, the II Regional Phase of the written test of the Venezuelan Nanotechnology Olympics (OVN) 2026 formally begins, a rigorous individual evaluation that brings together a total of 789 outstanding young people from all over the country, a contingent made up of 340 female and 449 male representatives.
This decisive day unfolds with the mission of promoting mass interest in nanotechnology among young people, identifying and motivating emerging talent, and formally selecting the delegation that will proudly represent Venezuela at the prestigious International Nanotechnology Olympiad (INO).
Academic mobilization stands out for its scale and territorial reach. The evaluation will be carried out simultaneously in the country's 24 federal entities, strategically covering 102 municipalities and 208 parishes. This organizational effort has brought together 370 educational institutions, in an unprecedented confluence that links public high schools, private institutions, technical schools, military educational units and prestigious universities.
This scientific contest is divided into two independent categories, structured under parallel evaluations that will require a strict period of two hours of execution. Category A brings together 644 middle school students, whose ages range from 15 to 17, constituting the most robust base of general participation. For its part, Category B brings together 145 university students between 18 and 22 years of age, specialized in nanotechnology or related disciplines in the areas of pure sciences and engineering.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MINCYT), those who successfully overcome this rigorous individual filter will get their direct pass to the National Grand Final. In this instance, the dynamic will radically transform towards the group modality, which will force those classified to form teams of between three and five members to undertake the design, structuring and public defense of a high-impact technological project.
To monitor the day, the National University of Sciences (UNC), located in the Altos de Pipe sector, kilometer 11 of the Pan-American Highway (San Antonio de los Altos parish, Los Salias municipality of Miranda state), has been selected as the pilot headquarters and main guideline, concentrating 63 young people examined from the central region.
