Sentenced in her sixties to 8 years in prison for trafficking marijuana

A 63-year-old woman was sentenced to 8 years in prison after admitting her responsibility in trafficking two wrappers of marijuana.

According to a press release from the Public Ministry, she was arrested in flagrante delicto on November 11, 2023 by officials of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) at the Union International Bridge; located in Boca de Grita; belonging to the García de Hevia municipality of the state of Táchira.

During the checking of the contents of the bag in question, two black packages containing coffee powder were found on the outside ; but inside which were found plant remains of marijuana whose net weight was 1 kilo and 195 grams.

During the preliminary hearing, the 29th Public Prosecutor's Office of Táchira confirmed the accusation against Sáenz Barbosa for the commission of illegal trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances in the mode of transport.

After hearing the defendant's admission of facts, the 8th Control Court in that Andean entity handed down the above-mentioned conviction against her and ordered her detention in the women's annex of the Western Penitentiary Center, located in Santa Ana del Táchira.
