U.S. authorities reported a shooting in front of former President Donald Trump's golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, as he was leaving the premises.
According to the RT agency, citing The New York Post, at first it was reported that two people exchanged gunfire in front of the former president's golf club. However, media sources revealed that it was Secret Service agents who opened fire on a man who was seen with what appeared to be a gun while the former president was on the golf course.
“President Trump is safe after gunfire in his immediate vicinity. There are no more details at this time,” said Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign.
For her part, Republican U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene indicated in her X account that this is “another assassination attempt” by Trump.
CNN sources also detail that a backpack, an automatic rifle previously identified as an AK-47 and a GoPro camera were found in the area, suggesting that the suspect was planning to capture the process in the first person.
Meanwhile, the White House reported that U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were informed of the shooting and are “relieved” that the former president is unharmed, local media reported. “I'm glad he's safe. Violence has no place in the United States,” the Democratic candidate tweeted in X.
The incident comes two months after Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump while he was intervening at a rally in Pennsylvania, injuring him in the ear.
