The Municipal Chamber of Antonio José de Sucre, Yaracuy state, granted the Declaration of Intangible Cultural Heritage to the group “The Winner of Guama” and to the spiritual guardian Delia Méndez Hernández, as they were considered to disseminate an important cultural asset in that region.

According to information from the Ministry for Culture, the award of this award was led by the president of the chamber, Geraldo González, during a solemn session held in the chapel of San Antonio Aparecado.

The first cultural figure to receive this honor was the custom group “La Vencadora de Guama”, which has taken the roots and traditions of the Sucre municipality beyond its properties in an experiential exhibition of the music, dance and collective memory of its people.

In addition, the second award was addressed to Delia Méndez Hernández, who as of this date became a living heritage as the tireless guardian of San Antonio Aparecida, a symbol of faith and hope in the municipality for more than seven decades.

In view of this, the mayor of Sucre, Luis Duque, who also accompanied the activity, highlighted the work of these two figures in their commitment to keeping alive the cultural memory of the entity.

“The approval of the declaration of these two cultural figures is a first step in the many that come during this reaffirmation process. Thus, community leaders, cultural authorities and citizens unanimously expressed their commitment to keeping alive the essence and historical memory of Sucre, ensuring that these expressions continue to inspire future generations,” he said.

For his part, the local chronicler, Roberto Rodríguez, stated that “with this official event, the Antonio José de Sucre municipality not only celebrates its cultural wealth, but also cements a legacy that will transcend time, honoring the work of those who, with passion and devotion, keep the identity of its people alive”.
