Supreme Court ratified maximum sentence for 12 responsible for the failed assassination of 2018

These convictions were ratified last March 21 by Special Chamber Two of the Anti-Terrorism Court of Appeals.

The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) dismissed nine appeals seeking to annul the convictions imposed on 17 people found guilty of participating in the frustrated assassination of last August 4, 2018.

Among those convicted are 13 civilians and four soldiers, who were charged by the Public Prosecutor's Office for intentional homicide characterized as a degree of frustration in the person of the President of the Republic, among other crimes.

In the trial, which took place between December 2, 2019 and August 2, 2022, the National First Trial Court, with jurisdiction in cases related to Derivative and Related Crimes associated with Terrorism, issued sentences between 5 and 30 years in prison.
