Venezuelan tennis players Dakota Ferrer and Jonathan Vegas were proclaimed champions in mixed doubles in the under-17 category of the WTT Youth Contender Asunción 2026, Paraguay.

The tennis players won the gold after authoritatively beating Brazilian Theo Cruz and Paraguayan Liliana Guassardo in 3 sets to 0, according to the press release of the Ministry of Popular Power for Sports.

The Creole duo began their journey in the round of 16, beating the Amazonian couple made up of Matheus Rodrígues and Maiara Agnone with a score of 3 sets to 1.

Later, in the quarterfinals, Ferrer and Vegas repeated their victory by winning again 3-1 against Peruvians Keiji Takeda and Kiara Tafur, ensuring their presence in the semifinals.

In the semifinals, they staged one of the closest matches of the tournament, with Brazilians Lucas Romanski and Beatriz Fiore dominating 3-2, a result that allowed them to advance to the grand final.

In singles, Vegas won the bronze medal in the men's under-17 category, after giving up 0-3 in the semifinals to Puerto Rican Enrique Ríos.

For his part, Ferrer also achieved bronze in the women's individual under-17 category, after falling 3-1 in the semifinals to the American Satya Aspathi.

Dakota Ferrer, Jonathan Vegas, Nathacha Mata and Carlos Ríos are currently continuing their participation in the championship and are qualified for the quarterfinals of the individual under-19 category, where they will seek to advance to the decisive rounds of the WTT Youth Contender A Asunción 2026.
