The X Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will be held this Saturday, March 21, at the Agora Convention Center in this capital with delegates from the 33 member countries, reported the Prensa Latina website.

In addition to the host, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and that of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, are expected to be present, who will receive the Presidency Pro Tempor and of the bloc.

In addition, the adoption of the Bogotá Declaration is expected, a document that would reflect “the advances of the last year in terms of regional integration, cooperation, promotion of peace and strengthening of multilateralism in Latin America and the Caribbean”, as previously announced by the Foreign Ministry of the New Granada nation.

The day before, the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the regional integration mechanism was held.

The Colombian Foreign Minister, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, highlighted in the opening speech of the meeting the capacity of CELAC to sustain regional political dialogue with a view to consultation even when the criteria differ within it.

During his speech, he considered that the strength of the regional bloc lies in its ability to transform diversity into a platform for collective action.

In this regard, he asked his audience to reflect on the need to continue working with an approach aimed at generating benefits for the citizens of the region.

Villavicencio also referred to the work carried out by his country, which held the pro tempore presidency of the mechanism for the last year

He highlighted, for example, the drive to strengthen bi-regional dialogues with partners such as the European Union (EU), China and Africa, as well as the promotion of South-South and triangular cooperation, the exchange of knowledge and the mobilization of technical capacities.

At this point, he invited us to move forward in the negotiation of the CELAC-European Union Road Map, to reinforce the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and the CELAC-China Work Plan, and to continue consolidating the dialogue with Africa, with a view to holding the first CELAC-African Union Summit.

He considered that steps were taken to advance vital projects in strategic areas such as energy transition, food security, higher education, health, digital transformation, connectivity and the strengthening of intraregional trade.
