In the state of Aragua, the mayor's office of Girardot, through the Sports Department, announced the launch of the first edition of the Municipal Volleyball League, a project that will bring together more than 800 athletes from 40 sports schools in the 26 communes and 305 communal circuits in the jurisdiction, with the aim of strengthening sports mass and the recruitment of new talent in the capital of Aragüeña.
Through a local press release, the municipality's sports director, William Carrillo, reported that this initiative seeks to consolidate the sports bases with a view to future local and national competitions. “We started with this first league that will last one month of competition. It is a beautiful and ambitious project together with a great team, designed for the sports development of the boys and girls of our Maracay, who will represent us in the next community, student and national games,” he emphasized.
Regarding logistics, the president of the Municipal Volleyball League, Carmelo Segovia, explained that the opening event will take place on Saturday, June 27, starting at 9:00 a.m. at the facilities of the Las Delicias Sports Center.
“We will be rotating on weekends on different courts and reclaimed spaces in the municipality to make the volleyball party feel. In addition, we plan to transfer these days to the coastal parish of Choroní, in order to attract talent that has not had the opportunity to be made visible,” he said.
Regarding the categories, the vice-president of the league, Eddison Chourio, explained that the competition will be structured under a strict pattern of years of birth to ensure adequate training development: U9 (Initiation, 2017-2018), U11 (Training, 2015-2016), U13 (Mini Volleyball, 2013-2014) and U15 (Children, 2011-2012). Chourio added that soon there will be a call to incorporate the Master category.
