In a message published through its official account on social networks, the Ministry of Information of the Syrian Arab Republic denied the news published about the resignation of power of President Bashar al-Asad and his subsequent departure from the country.
“Some foreign media outlets publish rumors and false news about the departure of President Bashar al-Assad from Damascus or about sudden visits to one country or another,” the office said.
In this regard, he added: “The Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic denies all these rumors, points out its stated objectives and confirms that they are not new. Rather, these media have followed this pattern of attempts to deceive and influence the Syrian state and society throughout the last years of the war.”
“The Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic also confirms that the President is continuing his work and his national and constitutional tasks from the capital, Damascus,” the statement concludes.
Newspapers such as The Telegraph, from the United Kingdom, and The Wall Street Journal, from the United States, were some of those that allegedly reported that the family of the Syrian head of state had fled to Russia in the midst of fighting between the country's Armed Forces and terrorist groups. On the other hand, the Al Jazeera television network reported that the commander of the Syrian opposition forces, Hassan Abdul Ghany, says they have invaded a Syrian army camp and villages in the countryside around the city of Homs.
