As part of the Love and Food Prosperity Plan, the Bolivarian Government implemented a massive deployment of the Sovereign Countryside Fairs, with the objective of guaranteeing the people of Barinas access to basic food products at affordable prices.

From the “El Corozo” Commune, in the Juan Antonio Rodríguez Domínguez parish, Minister Carlos Leal Tellería, accompanied by representatives of the national and regional General Staff of Food, supervised the day, which is part of a comprehensive social care strategy.

“We are complying with the instruction of our national government to bring food directly from the field to the table of Venezuelans. Here in Barinas, the birthplace of the Giant, we see an exemplary popular organization that allows our families to access the highest quality products at supportive prices,” said Tellería.

The holder of the Food Portfolio reported that 521 fairs were held nationwide, of which 26 were held exclusively in the state of Barinas during the weekend cycle. He also added that more than 21,000 tons of food were mobilized to supply these days, in order to guarantee a diverse and sufficient supply.

Regarding infrastructure, he stressed that seven strategic establishments are planned to be rehabilitated in the entity; to date, four centers have already been recovered and announced the next inauguration of three more.

He stressed that, through the joint effort with the Executive and the support of the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez, a total of 130 Pdval and Mercal establishments have been rehabilitated throughout the country.

The minister also highlighted the holding of 31 peasant agrofairs in Barinas, taking advantage of the state's productive capacity to fully supply the market and moving towards food sovereignty.

Finally, Leal Tellería held meetings with the General Food Staff and the governor of the entity, Adán Chávez, in order to articulate strategies that link citizen security with the protection of the food distribution system.
