Trinidad and Tobago: Opposition Party United National Congress won parliamentary elections

Last Monday, the opposition United National Congress (UNC) party won the parliamentary elections held in Trinidad and Tobago, with which its leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar, became the virtual prime minister-elect.

According to the official results of the elections, the UNC won 25 of the 41 seats in dispute, that is, six more than in the previous year.

For its part, the ruling National People's Movement (PNM) registered victories in 14 electoral constituencies, representing a loss of eight seats.

After the results were announced, the leader of the UNC and the country's next prime minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar, appeared before her supporters at a public event and gave a speech outlining her future government actions.
