Triplists lead Venezuelan delegation in the Ibero-American U20

Triplists YJennifer Mendoza and Brendan Pérez lead the Venezuelan group that will compete in the Ibero-American Under-20 Championship scheduled from June 19 to 21 in Lima, Peru.

The delegation is made up of 21 athletes and 14 of them are qualified for the Under-20 World Cup in August in Oregon, according to a press release from the Ministry of Sports.

The national team is coming out strong in the jumping events, since three representatives have a place in the universal event. In this block, Mendoza stands out, who will make her international debut in the women's triple jump and record a personal record of 13.38 achieved this month, placing her second in the ranking behind the Spanish Ana Estrella de León with 13.49.

Pérez, with a record of 16.06, will seek to improve his performance in the Ibero-American Under-18 of 2025 where he finished fourth and enters the competition with the expectation of placing himself behind the Cuban Giann Baxter, leader of the race with 16.80.

In the length, Oriana Díaz, with 6.27, and Sahra Boada, with 5.80, will compete, while Díaz shares the best brand on the list with the Spanish Luna Arnas. Boada will also participate in the 100-meter hurdles and in the women's 4x100 relay.

The speed will be represented by Dilany Melo and Osmary Pacheco in the 400 meters, in addition to Orihana Guzmán and Valeria Uriepero in the 100 meters. In the field, Oriana Saavedra in garrocha and Isabel Sánchez in disco join.

The men's division includes Ariff Pérez, first in the regional ranking of the U20 Decathlon with 7,368 points, followed by the Cuban Leandro Basilet and the Portuguese Denis Hrabar. Orlando Fernández is also returning to the competition, who will seek to consolidate his performance in javelin with a mark of 70.20 above the Brazilian Nicolas Henry Fontinelly.

The men's group is completed by Michel Malpa in 100 meters, Yoneiber Moreno in 400, Richard Peña in 400 hurdles and 400, in addition to Orlando Ávila in 800, José Barroeta in 3,000 and 5,000, Julio Chirinos in 800 and 1,500 and Marlon Patiño in 1,500 and 3,000.

The delegation travels with the technical support of Alejandro Bermúdez in launches, Eladio Farfán in combined, Miguel Padrón in jumps and Dennis Brito in the race events.
