The president of the Parliament of Türkiye, Numan Kurtulmuş, highlighted this Wednesday the “urgent need” to recognize the State of Palestine by more countries.

During the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul, Kurtulmuş emphasized that this step is essential to realize the two-State solution, while he denounced the aggressive policies of the Israeli Government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pointing out that systematic attacks against civilians have transformed the conflict into a crisis of humanity.

He said that international law must prevail to guarantee the self-determination of a people facing an unprecedented escalation of violence. Since October 2023, the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip has resulted in 72,336 deaths and 172,213 injuries.

Kurtulmuş urged parliamentarians around the world to coordinate efforts to ensure an immediate ceasefire and facilitate the reconstruction of the territory. The international assembly concluded with a call to sow hope and guarantee justice for future generations through diplomacy and mutual respect.
