Colombian President Gustavo Petro's complaint about illegal espionage with Pegasus software must be investigated, the Office of the United Nations Human Rights (UN) said.
Through the social network X, the UN warned that the use of the Pegasus malware seriously violates rights to privacy. It also violates freedom of expression and association, among other human rights.
“Complaints about their purchase in 2021 and possible use must be seriously investigated by the competent authorities,” he stressed.
The UN urged the authorities to investigate, prosecute and punish those responsible and to repair the damages caused against individuals, organizations and other victims of illegal espionage through the Pegasus software in Colombia.
