This Monday, the United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that there are more than 50,000 people displaced by armed clashes in northern Ethiopia.

“The humanitarian situation there is serious, with thousands of women and children left in need of extensive humanitarian support to survive,” the UN remarked.

The displaced population includes 42,000 people in Kobo, in the North Wello area, and 8,300 in Sekota, in the Wag Hemra area, according to a note from Xinhua.

According to a peace agreement between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government and the Tigrayan authorities, the Amhara forces, who backed federal troops during the conflict, were to withdraw from Raya Alamata after the agreement was signed in Pretoria in November 2022. Neither the federal government nor the Tigray authorities responded to the requests.
