The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, raised his concern about violations of Syrian sovereignty, the agency's press service said in a statement.
“The Secretary General is deeply concerned by the recent and extensive violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said. Guterres is also concerned about “the hundreds” of Israeli air strikes against Syrian territory.
Likewise, Guterres “stressed the urgent need to de-escalate violence on all fronts across the country,” Sputnik develops.
Last Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will temporarily control the Golan Heights buffer zone on the border with Syria “until a force committed to the 1974 agreement emerges and security is guaranteed” on Israel's border.
In November, a broad coalition of armed opposition groups in Syria carried out a surprise full-scale offensive against the regular army from the northwest of the country.
In less than two weeks, anti-government forces took control of several important cities such as Aleppo, Hama and Homs and entered the capital, Damascus, last Sunday, where they proclaimed the fall of President Bashar Asad, who had held the presidency since 2000, after the death of his father, Hafez Asad, who had ruled Syria for the previous three decades.
