UN Secretary General warned that AI could destabilize democratic systems

In a message regarding the World Day of Democracy, the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), raised the alarm this weekend because of the challenges of for public participation.
Guterres called for regulating the development of AI because it with the spread of disinformation, hate speech and the distortion of public opinion through characters, hoaxes or false news”.
He also reiterated the need to defend freedom of expression, civil liberties and the , in addition to ensuring accountability on the part of institutions and the protection of fundamental guarantees.
“These rights and values are being attacked around the world, freedoms are eroding, civic space is diminishing, polarization is intensifying, and mistrust is growing,” the UN Secretary General emphasized.
Antonio Guterres reaffirmed that if states use intelligence for good governance, they can create more transparent and responsible systems that allow citizens to participate more effectively.
