This Wednesday, the United Nations (UN) Security Council expressed its outrage at the lack of progress towards a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The agency held its second emergency meeting on Gaza in less than a week, hearing a growing call for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave as members discussed the humanitarian situation as well as the growing tensions in the occupied West Bank.

According to information published by Telesur, members of the Council expressed their frustration at Israel's refusal to accept the ceasefire outlined in Resolution 2735, which called for the release of captives and the withdrawal of the Israeli regime from Gaza.

The Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations, Riad Mansur, stressed the need for an urgent truce in Gaza and denounced that the occupying entity was using the “most despicable means to achieve its colonial objectives” in the coastal territory.
