The congresswoman from Minnesota, Ilhan Omar and other representatives introduced a Resolution before the House of Representatives of the United States Congress (USA) to put an end to the military operations ordered by President Donald Trump in the Caribbean and requiring him to request authorization from the legislature.

The Democratic representative, vice-president of the Progressive Caucus of the United States Congress (USA), presented a resolution to stop the escalation undertaken by the Trump administration against Venezuela on the grounds of the “fight against drug trafficking” in the Caribbean Sea.

“There was no legal justification for the Trump Administration's military escalation in the Caribbean (...) It was not in self-defense nor was it authorized by Congress. That's why I'm presenting a resolution to end hostilities against Venezuela and against transnational criminal organizations that the Administration has designated as terrorists this year,” said a congressman from Minnesota, who was backed by caucus president Greg Casar (Texas) and Jesús “Chuy” García (Illinois).

Omar has been the target of criticism from the president, stating that “the separation of powers is crucial for our democracy and that only Congress has the power to declare war.”

The War Powers Resolution (War Powers Act), passed in 1973 after the Vietnam War, limits the use of armed forces without authorization from the U.S. Congress.

This is how the Deputy Minister of Anti-Blocking Policy, William Castillo, explained them in a message posted on his account on the social network X. It opens up a new front for Trump in his plan to threaten Venezuela and regional security and peace.
