The Republican members of the Judiciary Committee of the United States House of Representatives (USA) are studying the possibility of introducing a charge of one thousand American dollars per asylum request, among other increases in immigration procedures.

Últimas Noticias explained that the proposal, presented last Monday, is part of the conservative strategy to support U.S. President Donald Trump in his immigration agenda.

The congressmen called a meeting to evaluate the draft budget that seeks funds to increase funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

If the proposal is approved, it would be the first time that an asylum seeker has been required to pay a thousand dollars to submit their case. In addition, they must pay 550 dollars every 6 months for work permits and 100 per year while their application is being processed.

Sponsors of children entering the United States will only have to pay 3,500 dollars for the procedure, the proposal indicates.
