Thousands of residents of Collier County, in southwestern Florida, had to leave their homes during the night of Tuesday due to the advance of a wildfire. The accident, which affects this region of the United States (USA), is spreading uncontrollably and has generated an emergency situation that immediately mobilized local authorities.
The state Forest Service reported that the flames have already consumed about 701 hectares of vegetation. According to official reports, this fire season is shaping up to be one of the most severe in recent years, which has complicated land defense efforts and the protection of residential areas.
Due to the proximity of the fire, mandatory evacuation orders were issued in the most critical areas to protect the integrity of the inhabitants. The emergency brigades deployed a wide-ranging operation, working under adverse weather conditions to try to establish perimeters that prevent the fire source from reaching civilian structures.
At the close of the last day, response teams managed to contain 60% of the accident, although the alert remains active. During the early morning, intensive surveillance guards and tactical operations were maintained to neutralize the sources that are still active, with the aim of preventing new spills into populated areas.
