After a declaration of International Emergency issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) due to outbreaks of Ebola (Bundibugyo strain) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, the Venezuelan Ministry of Health activated surveillance systems in ports and airports.

Although international media reported suspicions in the United States and Brazil, the authorities clarified that there are no confirmed cases in America and that the risk of transmission in the national territory is low.

In coordination with the Ministries of Transport and Foreign Affairs, the control of passengers from affected areas will begin this week and it is recommended to avoid unnecessary transfers to these sources. The ministry recalled that the virus is not transmitted through the air, but through direct contact with fluids from infected people after the onset of symptoms (fever, tiredness or pain), urging those with a history of traveling to see a doctor immediately.
