On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, spoke this Monday, in New York, with the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, highlighting the fraternal and cultural ties that unite their countries as Caribbean nations.

At the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), the authorities addressed bilateral cooperation issues and exchanged their perspectives on the complex situation facing the Caribbean, “currently marked by the presence of hostile military assets,” the Foreign Minister emphasized on his Telegram channel.

The diplomat thanked the Government and the People of Barbados for their unconditional support to Venezuela in its fight for political and territorial sovereignty.

On August 29, Minister Gil visited the Caribbean country and met with his counterpart Kerrie Symmonds, in order to “analyze the delicate situation of Latin America and the Caribbean in the face of United States interventionism, which has escalated to a military threat to our peoples.”

Both foreign ministers also met at the end of September 2024, during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly; they considered the opportunity to expand cooperation in different areas and reaffirmed the strong friendship between their countries.

Caracas and Bridgetown, with diplomatic relations since September 25, 1969, increased cooperation after Prime Minister Mottley's visit to the Venezuelan capital in July 2023, who met with President Nicolás Maduro and agreements were signed on air services and agri-food sovereignty, in addition to a Joint Declaration that establishes a formal commitment to continue bilateral work in various areas of cooperation.
