The Minister of People's
Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, held a
pleasant and productive conversation this Thursday with his counterpart from Benin, Shègun Adjadi
Bakari, in which they reaffirmed their countries' mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Through a
post on his Telegram channel, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister stressed that binational
ties “show a very positive picture as we move
towards the consolidation of the First Joint Commission.”
The meeting
took place in the context of the 80th session of the General Assembly of the
United Nations (UN), which is taking place in New York.
In March of this
year, both authorities spoke by telephone and agreed to move forward in
carrying out the first bilateral Joint Commission. On that occasion, Gil agreed with his African
counterpart to “collaborate in areas such as sustainable agriculture, education,
energy, cultural exchange and the textile industry”.
Caracas and
Porto-Novo established diplomatic relations on June 20, 1991. To date, they
have strategic cooperation agreements in areas such as technical cooperation,
twinning of local governments, visa suppression and the fight against
drugs, among others.
