The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez Gómez, during the closing of the 25th World Forum for the Development of Special Economic Zones (SEZ), stated that this event had a very important development.

“I am grateful that for the first time this edition is being held in Latin America; it has only been held outside of China, in Vietnam, Russia and now Venezuela. This responds precisely to the level of our relations between China and Venezuela, solid and tested,” Rodríguez said.

He emphasized that 23 papers demonstrated the importance of ZEE in the development of the country and the economy. “China is the best example to show and what we have learned in the exchange of experience through these presentations on how to strengthen Venezuela's Special Economic Zones.”

He recalled that the capture of SEZs from investments in China corresponds to 90%, “this means that Special Economic Zones are an extraordinary mechanism for attracting investment and, like Special Economic Zones, they represent 70% of exports in China.”

The vice-president pointed out that of the 15 cities that contribute the most to the world, nine are from China and the SEZs have an important presence; in addition, she said that Venezuela created a new institutional framework to adapt to the SEZ model. “The new institutionality includes the Anti-Blockade Law, the EEZ Act, the creation of the Venezuelan EEZ, the Foreign Trade Agency and the creation of the International Center for Productive Investment. An investment plan of 10 billion dollars was established to create an industrial park in Falcón, with spaces for the development of tourism. Likewise, there will be investments for Venezuela's oil sector. It was also agreed to send Venezuelans to train in China in the development of ZEE.”

For her part, the director of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zones Research Center, Tao Yitao, said: “It is an honor that the 25th meeting is taking place in the Latin American continent. China and Venezuela amalgamate a new beginning in the deployment of bilateral relations between the two countries.”

“We have seen that Venezuela has great resources that can be converted into an engine to boost the economy. It moves us and makes us see the future of Venezuela. Progress must be made in planning and using technologies for the maximum use of resources, for the sake of national economic development. The appropriate path is that Venezuela must have its own Venezuelan path, appropriate to Venezuela's conditions,” Yitao emphasized.

The 25th World Forum for the Development of Special Economic Zones represents an opportunity to promote the exchange of ideas and experiences about the global economic future, as well as to highlight the potential of foreign investment in strategic sectors in the country.

The main objective of this plan is to promote economic growth in Venezuela through a strategic vision in which national and international investors participate for an industrial, productive and diversified model, not dependent on oil.
