In order to strengthen ties of
strategic cooperation, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Obiang Nguema
Mbasogo, received this Tuesday, at the Presidential Palace of Malabo, the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic
of Venezuela, Yván Gil Pinto.
At the meeting, which took place in connection with the Second Joint Cooperation
Commission between Venezuela and Equatorial Guinea, installed the day before,
the Equatorial Guinean President
and the Venezuelan Foreign Minister pledged to continue strengthening diplomatic
relations, under the precepts of the Charter of the United Nations, an instrument that they protect through the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the
United Nations and which underlines the full validity of multilateralism as
an effective tool to face the challenges of humanity.
On his Telegram channel, the Venezuelan diplomat, on
behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, pointed out that he spoke with the African Head of
State about “opportunities for exchange and solidarity cooperation
between our peoples, with the objective of strengthening the bonds of brotherhood that unite us.”
Caracas and Malabo established diplomatic relations on May 7, 1981
. Cooperation reached a new level in 2009, with the signing of
an agreement and memorandums of understanding in various areas that are still being
maintained today, with energy collaboration being one of the fundamental pillars of
the alliance.
To date, both countries - oil exporters and gas producers - have more than 16 signed instruments in the areas of professional and diplomatic university education; human rights; science and technology; agriculture; tourism and communication; women and gender equality; air and maritime transport; habitat and housing; culture and oil.
