The Venezuelan Government welcomed the 72nd anniversary of the Assault on the Moncada Barracks, a military action led by Commander Fidel Castro Ruz, to take the first step towards the overthrow of the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship in Cuba.
Through a statement released by the foreign minister, Yván Gil, on his Telegram channel, it was highlighted that this historic event became the awakening of a Revolution that became a symbol of dignity, sovereignty and self-determination for all of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Below is the full statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela celebrates with revolutionary fervor the 72nd anniversary of the heroic assaults on the Moncada Barracks and the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks, exploits led by Cuban rebel youth under the leadership of Fidel Castro Ruz, which marked an irreversible milestone in the history of the struggle for social justice and the liberation of peoples.
July 26, 1953 was not just a military action: it was the awakening of a Revolution that became a symbol of dignity, sovereignty and self-determination for all of Latin America and the Caribbean. That date ignited the flame of a transformative process that, seven decades later, continues to stand with firmness and dignity, facing the criminal blockade with creativity, resistance and solidarity.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, heir to the legacy of Simon Bolivar and Commander Hugo Chávez, joins the brave people of Cuba, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and fellow president Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to pay tribute to the heroes of July 26 and to reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the Cuban Revolution and to the common cause for social justice and regional integration.
United in the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Cuba and Venezuela continue to walk together on the path of sovereignty, internationalism and the construction of the Great Homeland that Martí and Bolívar dreamed of.
Eternal honor and glory on July 26th!
Until victory always!
