The Ministry of Popular Power for Sport (MinDeporte), together with the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV), announced the list of athletes nominated to wear the national tricolor in the upcoming South American Youth Games, to be held from April 12 to 25 in Panama, and that Venezuelans can choose by logging into the Instagram account of the said firm.
A female representative and a male representative will be selected from among the six candidates to guide the new generation of athletes to the path of victory in Panamanian lands.
The national flag bearer is an honor reserved for those athletes who demonstrate talent, leadership, discipline and a record of international achievements that make the country proud.
In the last edition of the South American youth joust, which took place in Rosario, Argentina 2024, the honor went to the Pan-American champion in Asunción 2025 and world multi-medalist in weightlifting, Kerly Montilla, together with the swimmer and triple medalist in the 2025 Bolivarian Games, Emil Pérez.
Now, a new golden generation of talent seeks to follow in their footsteps and represent the values of Venezuelan sports in regional competition.
In the women's category, there is the Olympic wrestler Asia Sánchez. The capital became the national under-17 champion in 2026 and won the bronze medal in the Pan-American category in Brazil.
The Aragueña Dakota Ferrer is another of those called to be the carrier of the tricolor. The benchmark of Venezuelan youth table tennis, which represents the colors of La Guaira, won gold medals in the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción 2025, in the Young Contender of Cappadocia, Türkiye 2025 and in the recent World Table Tennis in the Paraguayan capital in mixed doubles.
Likewise, boxer Grenyelis Garcia completes the list of female candidates. The Anzoatiguense won the silver medal in the 2026 National Championship.
In the men's category, the roster is headed by the new diamond of Venezuelan swimming, Dennis Pérez, a specialist in speed tests. The man from the capital won two gold medals in the Ayacucho-Lima 2025 Bolivarian Games in the 100 and 4×100 meter freestyle relay event.
In addition, one of the strongholds of the country's Greco-Roman struggle, Haniel Rodríguez, joins the list of candidates. The Carabobeño has won the title at the Bolivarian Youth Games in Sucre, Bolivia 2024, as well as a bronze medal in the Pan-American Under-17 Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2025.
Finally, Caracas boxer Wilmerson González joins the contest for the privilege of guiding the Venezuelan contingent during the regional sporting event. The silver medal at the Central American School Games held last year in Córdoba, Colombia, demonstrated the boxer's potential.
