In the framework of the meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is taking place in Vienna, the Venezuelan delegation expressed its satisfaction with the announcement made by the Director General of the Agency, Rafael Grossi, about the agreement reached with Iran, with the mediation of Egypt, for the resumption of safeguards inspection activities, which were suspended following the illegal military attacks by the Israeli regime and the United States (US) against Iranian nuclear facilities in mid-June.

The Permanent Representative of Venezuela to International Organizations based in Vienna, Ambassador Claudia Salerno Caldera, reiterated that the resolution presented in June of this year by the United States and the member countries of E3 (United Kingdom, France and Germany), was politically motivated to affect the ongoing diplomatic negotiations and justify the bombings against Iran, without a formal condemnation by the IAEA.

In this regard, the Venezuelan delegation complained that, in the report presented at the current session of the Board of Governors, there was no mention of the meetings of that body held on 16 and 23 June, during which a significant number of States Parties condemned the illegal military aggressions against Iranian nuclear facilities, in violation of Article 2, paragraph 4, of the Charter of the United Nations (UN).

He also expressed his categorical rejection of the double standard expressed by countries that say they are concerned about a “possible”, “possible”, “not yet existing” threat from Iran, which has the sovereign right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, but which are the same ones that provide weapons and financing for the Palestinian genocide; nor do they say anything about the presence of an armed nuclear submarine in the Caribbean, threatening to attack Venezuela.

Finally, the national delegation recalled that the use of force cannot be established as a mechanism for complying with safeguards, in addition to stressing its rejection of any attempt to exploit non-proliferation as a weapon to justify aggression and intervention.
