During a press conference with international media, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced a virtual videoconference between the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, the extreme right wing María Corina Machado and the former presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia with the objective of promoting a change of government in the country.
Maduro described the initiative as a repetition of the international aggression applied in 2019 and 2020, when figures such as John Bolton, Mike Pompeo and Elliott Abrams promoted the self-proclamation of Juan Guaidó as interim president.
The president noted that, at that time, the opposition was united and enjoyed immediate international support. However, he emphasized that today the scenario is different: “Venezuela is stronger, with a strengthened national power, and there is no room for external impositions or for republishing figures like Guaidó, and Edmundo González is now in Madrid, between cups and cups, enjoying his golden exile.”
Maduro stated that the country has learned from previous attempts and that peace will prevail over any threat.
“Today there is no Guaidó that they can impose. What there is is a conscious people, a strengthened civic-military union and a solid plan to continue moving forward with justice, equality and development,” he emphasized.
He said that the videoconference between Rubio, Machado and González, the president revealed that, according to sources close to the country, the formation of a new parallel government had been discussed. “Wishes don't commit. In Venezuela, peace will prevail, and what is intended to be imposed from outside has no place in our sovereign reality,” he said.
President Maduro urged the international community to respect the will of the Venezuelan people and reiterated that any attempt at destabilization will be received with firmness and national unity.
