Venezuela won its second gold medal in the Ibero-American Under-20 Championship in Lima 2026 with the victory of Brendan Pérez, who recorded 16.38 meters in the triple jump, a mark that is set as a national and tournament record.

The man from the capital opened the competition with 16.12 meters and then, on his fifth attempt, took the distance to 16.38 meters, a figure that exceeds his previous record by 36 centimeters and sets a new limit for the category, according to a press release from the Ministry of Sports.

The performance places Pérez on the international circuit of a race with Venezuelan references such as Asnoldo Devonish and Yulimar Rojas, historic protagonists of the triple jump.

In other performances on the first day, Yoneiber Moreno and Richard Peña advanced to the final of the 400 meters, while Ariff Pérez provisionally leads the decathlon after completing five tests with a cumulative score of 3,890 points.
