Venezuela participates in COP17 to promote plans against land degradation

Venezuela participates in the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, which takes place from August 17 to 28 in the city of Ulan Bator, Mongolia, with the purpose of promoting plans against land degradation.

The meeting brings together representatives from 197 countries whose motto is “Restoring the Earth. Restoring hope”, are tasked with evaluating urgent strategies to curb soil degradation and combat the expansion of arid zones, MINEC reports on its Instagram account.

The Venezuelan representation is composed of Renzo Silva, commissioner of the Office of the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC), and Carmen Parra, director of Soil Conservation, Desertification and Drought. Both officials participate in working groups to ratify the country's commitments in the area of biodiversity protection, food security and environmental justice.

With its participation, Venezuela confirms that the restoration of the territory is key to sustainable development and the future of peoples.
